Seminar on 'Consumer Friendly Vydyuthi Board 'A seminar “Consumer Friendly Vydyuthi Board”,  was conducted  at Town Hall, Kozhikkode on 24 th March 2010, by the Association. The Worshipful Mayor of Kozhikkode Corporation, Sri M Bhaskaran, inaugurated the seminar. Sri TP Ramakrishnan (State Secretary, CITU and Chairman, Swagathasangham) made the welcome speech. Sri KA Sivadasan (State President, KSEBOA) was the moderator. Sri A Sajithkumar presented the base paper for KSEBOA. Sri M Radhakrishnan (Standing Committee Chairman (Education) Kozhikkode District Panchayath), Sri PV Gangadharan (President, Malabar Chamber of Commerce), Sri T Nasarudheen (State President, Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi), Sri AT Abdullakkoya (State Treasurer,  Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi  Samithi), Smt Babykkutti Lala (President, Resident’s Association, Civil Station, Kozhikkode) and Sri PA Sandheep (State Vice President, KSEB Workers’ Association, CITU) delivered their responses in the subject. Sri Bose Jacob (Convener, C CAPSS, KSEBOA) concluded the session. Sri PT Jayaprakashan (District President, KSEBOA) delivered vote of thanks.

Sri M Bhaskaran, Mayor, pointed out the need of customer friendly approach not only in KSEB but in all the departments and organizations, especially in Public Sector. The representatives of various consumer sections raised their problems and also suggested solutions. Sri M Radhakrishnan reiterated the need for keeping the KSEB in public sector, which needs support from consumers. Here comes the importance of consumer satisfaction, he added. Sri PV Gangadharan warned that unless the Board becomes more consumer friendly people will demand for privatization. Sri Nasarudheen complained that the commercial tariff rates are high and to be reduced, at the expense of domestic tariff, if felt necessary. He requested the Board to issue CFL to commercial consumers also. He also suggested that periodical interactive meetings of Board officials and commercial consumers’ representatives to be conducted to sort out and solve issues.

Sri AT Abdullakkoya pointed out that cross subsidy should be retained, with minimum harm to commercial category and thanked the Board for not imposing the power cut and load shedding. Smt Babykkutti Lala stressed the need for energy conservation, and presented several ideas to reduce the energy consumption. Sri Sandheep explained how the Electricity Act 2003 forces the Board to implement certain rules and regulations that badly affects the customers of KSEB.
