No power? You can SMS your complaint to KSEB

SMSKerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is introducing a State-wide facility for electricity consumers to register complaints relating to power failure by SMS. KSEB launched a pilot project in its Thiruvananthapuram Division using which consumers can lodge their power supply disruption complaints by SMS. Now it is extended through out the state of Kerala. KSEB is using the m-Governance short code platform developed by the Kerala State IT Mission for this service. The formal state wide launch of this service was done by the Power Minister as part of the UDF Government's 100 day programme.

To register a complaint, the consumer has to send his or her consumer number and section office code by SMS to the number 537252 in the format KSEB <space> Section Code <space> Consumer No.

Immediately, the server at the KSEB headquarters would SMS a reply acknowledging the registration of the complaint. The complaint would simultaneously flash on a computer at the section office concerned of the KSEB.

Sudley Cardoza, Director - IT, KSEB said, "The pilot project covered all the 12 sections under Thiruvananthapuram Division and the initial response today has been really encouraging. Consumers should however note that, as of now, the SMS service deals with only power supply interruption complaints. This service will be extended throughout the State in August itself."

Consumers will have to send the SMS which contains a four digit code pertaining to their section and their Consumer number. The SMS which goes to the IT Mission server first is then forwarded to the KSEB server. On receipt of the SMS, a Docket Number is generated and sent as SMS back to the consumer's mobile along with a message that the complaint will be attended soon.

Meanwhile the concerned Section PC will get this message and the Maintenance Sub Engineer will be intimated, who will in turn despatch the team to rectify the fault. On completion of their work, the team will have to return to their office PC and close the Docket Number. This process will initiate a SMS for the consumer saying the complaint has been attended to.
