Kerala CMThe state cabinet on 30-05-2012 deferred decision on a proposal for restructuring and corporatizing the Kerala State Electricity Board. Trade unions and officers Associations were against a hasty corporatisation as there are several uncertainities regarding pension fund, Govt. guarantee for pension, Tripratiate agreement etc. Agitating employees had already taken up the issue with Cheif minister.

Addressing a post cabinet press conference, chief minister Oommen Chandy said a final decision on this would be taken only after taking the employees of the board into confidence.

The chief minister will hold discussions with trade union leaders on the issue. Later, the CM will discuss the matter with the finance minister and the power minister, and refer the proposal with changes, if any, to the cabinet for approval.

Sources said Chandy was very particular about not taking a hasty decision on KSEB restructuring, even though power minister Aryadan Mohammed was keen on cabinet approval for the proposal in its current form. The state government had earlier set June 30, 2012 as the deadline for restructuring the board.

The chief minister said there was no time-frame set for holding discussions on the issue with trade union leaders and cabinet colleagues. As per the current proposal, the board chairman will head the new company once KSEB is restructured. The CM also indicated that there was not much chance of extending the service of KSEB chairman T M Manoharan. He is to retire from service on 31-05-2012. No decision has been taken on the new chairman of the board either.

The Power Minister had earlier held discussions with the employees. He would now convene a conference with the employees which would be attended by the Finance and Power Ministers. He and the Ministers would then place final proposals for approval of the Cabinet.
