A sum of Rs.1,961.57 crore is due to the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) as arrears of electricity charges from Central and State government departments, public sector undertakings and private companies.
Minister for Power Aryadan Mohammed told the Assembly during question hour on Tuesday that Rs.500-core arrears due from the KWA will be adjusted by the KSEB. The Minister said theft of 1,10,39,687 units of power was detected after the present UDF came to power and Rs.15,87,52,778 was collected as penalty.
The KSEB will give 4,59,020 new connections in 2015-16 and 2,19,000 new connections had already been given. The pending 1,095 applications will be cleared soon and connections will be given this month, the Minister said.
Two LED lights will be given to each consumer belonging to the BPL category, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes in the State. The KSEB will make bulk purchase of LED lights and provide them at reduced price to consumers.
The government is of the view that projects submitted by the State to railways are not getting due priority.
