The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC) on Saturday ordered the withdrawal of the fuel surcharge on power tariff with effect from August 31. The commission had allowed the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) to levy a surcharge of 25 paise a unit of electricity for a period of six months from April 1 to September 30 this year. This permission is being withdrawn one month in advance through the latest order. The commission, in a press release, said the decision to withdraw the permission had come in the context of the KSEB's failure to submit the full particulars of the amount collected by way of surcharge from the consumers so far.
The commission also noted that the KSEB was neither indicating in the bills the subsidy sanctioned by the government for the low-end consumers using up to 120 units of energy monthly, nor ensuring the release of the subsidy from the government.
