KSEB probes alternatives to SmartCity route

Smart CityThe Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is probing alternative routes for laying the 220KV line from Pallikara sub-station after it fails to find a solution to the objection raised by SmartCity to using its land for overhead lines. The line-laying work has been grounded for the last 10 months due to the standoff. SmartCity that got the land from KSEB objected to the overhead line and insisted on underground cables.

The government agreed to pay Rs 15 crore for laying the underground cables but KSEB that sought Rs 60 crore found it too little.

The KSEB project to tap power from Madakkathara-Pallikara 440 KV line has been aimed at boosting the power availability to the city, Kalamassery industrial belt and the Infopark. It needs to draw a 220 KV line from Pallikara to Kalamasserry and Brahmapuram to utilize this power.

According to KSEB chief engineer (transmission) Babukuttan, an additional line through SmartCity land was sought as the present 220 KV double circuit was too crowded.
