A meeting of the board of the Kerala State Electricity Board here on 07-10-2013 has approved revenue and expenditure estimates for 2012-13. Total revenue was Rs 7,651 crore against a total expenditure of Rs 11,144 crore, a Board spokesman announced here giving preliminary figures.
The standout feature was that the amount spent on purchase of power during the year had exceeded total revenue.
This is despite a 28 per cent increase in revenue compared to 2011-12. Total revenue for 2012-13 was Rs 7,447 crore (Rs 5,817 crore) but the Board had to commit Rs 7,765 crore for purchase of power. This was attributed to lifting of costlier thermal power from the Kayamkulam plant. Monthly outgo in salaries and wages was Rs 175 crore; administrative expenses Rs 17 crore; and repairs and maintenance Rs 21 crore.
