Summer rains - KSEB suffers loss to the tune of Rs 95 lakh

Summer rainThe Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has estimated damages to the tune of Rs 95 lakh to its installations in the southern districts in the recent summer showers. Pathanamthitta and Kottayam reported the largest extent of damages to electrical installations. In Pathanamthitta, 19.6 km of LT lines, 2.3 km of HT lines, three transformers, 518 LT poles and 65 HT poles were damaged. The loss has been put at Rs 30.46 lakh, KSEB chief engineer (distribution south) K Radhakrishnan said. In Kottayam, 90.16 km of LT lines, 40.1 km of HT lines, 529 poles, four transformers were damaged. The loss has been put at Rs 33.21 lakh.

In Kollam district, Kottarakkara reported the highest number of damages due to the rain. Here, supply has been restored in all places except Kulakkada.

In other parts of the district, 95 percent of the supply has been restored, Radhakrishnan said.

The rural areas of Thiruvananthapuram reported more damages than the city area. The total loss has been put at Rs 8.36 lakh. A total of 18 hours of supply interruption has occurred owing to the damage. Around 42 electric poles also were snapped.In the city area, 4.7 km of LT lines were damaged when branches of trees fell on them.
