In a tragic incident, three persons, including a pregnant woman and a teen girl, were electrocuted from a high tension line while collecting fire wood from a forest area in Mankulam here on Wednesday. Another woman and her nine-month-old baby had a miraculous escape.

Four-months pregnant Salomi, 30, wife of Kunjumon, Yashoda, 16, daughter of Thankachan and Chinnamma, and Rasathi, 30, wife of Mannavan, all hailing from Chikkanamkudi tribal colony in Mankulam, were electrocuted from an 11 KV line. Vineetha Sasi and her baby who were rescued by the local residents were admitted to the Adimali Taluk Hospital. The tragedy struck them around 1 pm when all of them had gone to the forest near 50mile-Mankulam road where the high tension electric line is drawn near Panambilli rivulet. The insulator of the line was broken and the electricity passed through the earth wire. It was heavily raining and as the group reached the post below the line, they suffered electric shock through the water clogged on the land.

The local people, on whose timely intervention the lives of Vineetha and her baby was saved, took them to the hospital.
