The Aam Admi Party (AAP) has decided to highlight electricity related problems to reach out to the common man in both the rural and urban belts of Haryana. Titled 'Bijli Andolan', the party's campaign — launched two weeks ago — has completed its first leg in Bhiwani on 17-07-2016. Now, AAP leaders have planned a fresh campaign in northern and central Haryana.
There are around 45 lakh electricity consumers across the state. Despite having its own installed capacity of over 3,000 megawatt, the Haryana government is supplying electricity arranged through long -term power purchase agreements made in the past. Seeking an immediate probe into the power purchase agreements (PPA) done by the government, AAP leaders have asked the government to bring down the rates of electricity supply at par with those in Delhi.
"If the Delhi government can provide electricity under three rupees for first two slabs, what stops Haryana government from doing so? The answer is simple as they want to facilitate the Gujarat -based fund managers", argued AAP Haryana president Navin Jaihind.
