
BHEL's scope of work in the contract envisages design, manufacture, supply and installation of new solar power plants of 1,100 kW, the statement added.
The Lakshadweep administration has also asked the company to renovate existing solar power plants of 800 kW at these islands. "While all the new plants will be set up by May 2011, the renovation job will be completed progressively by February, 2012," the statement said.
BHEL has also commissioned recently a total of 11 solar power plants in Lakshadweep islands as part of India's largest solar power-based Island electrification project in India. These plants, of about 1 MW capacity, cater to about 15 per cent of the coral islands' energy demand.
BHEL is also executing another turnkey contract for setting up a 3 MW eco-friendly solar power plant in Raichur , Karnataka for Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL), the statement added.
