BSEBChairman of the Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) P K Rai has cracked the whip on lax power officials, handing out compulsory retirement orders to four executive engineers, suspending one and swapping two senior officers, including the general manager of the Patna Electric Supply Undertaking  (PESU).

Among the officers compulsorily retired  were Lakshmi Mahto (Supaul), Sudhir Kumar (Nawada), Mathura Prasad Bhagat (Ara) and Hari Manmohan Choudhary of transformer repair works division, Katihar.

Executive engineer, electricity supply division, Patna City, Akhilesh Kumar, facing departmental proceedings over charges of corruption, indiscipline and neglect of duty, was suspended on 04-10-2012.

All the officers against whom action was taken were charged with indiscipline, disobedience and callousness towards objectives and goals of the power board.

Engineer, PESU, SKP Singh, was transferred and posted as chief engineer (operations and maintenance), BSEB headquarters, Patna, with immediate effect. He has been given additional charge of project manager (technical services), Patna. Chief engineer (O&M), BSEB headquarters, Vijay Kumar, replaces Singh as general manager-cum-chief engineer, PESU, Patna.

Talking to HT, BSEB chairman P K Rai said, "We have a provision of reviewing the services of officers who have attained 50 years of age and completed 15-20 years of service. The four who have been compulsorily retired had been consistently underperforming and not contributing to the cause of the organisation. We had counselled all such officers but some refused to change and adapt to the dynamic needs. As for the transfers, they are routine in nature, as the officers had been holding the post for long."

In what goes out as a clear message to power officials to pull up their socks or be ready to face action, Rai said, "We will review the services of more officers in the coming days. We have to arrest the decadence in our system".
