The three MLAsafter meeting DERC chairman P D Sudhakar addressed a press conference where they attacked the discoms and accused them of "looting the people of the city."
"The private power companies are looting the people of Delhi. After hiking the tariff, they have started demanding further increase in tariff. They have fudged their balance sheets to show losses," said Uttam Nagar MLA, Sharma.
The MLAs requested DERC to bring the discoms under the purview of Right to Information Act and demanded a probe into theIR accounts.
"We demand immediate roll back of the hike. Otherwise we will hit the streets," he said, also seeking a scrutiny of accounts of discoms by the Comptroller and Auditor General.
Asked whether their open criticism of the hike was not an embarrassment to the ruling party, he said it was step taken by DERC and had it got nothing to do with the party and the government.
Speaking at the Press conference, Chopra demanded that the electricity equipment and cable being purchased by discoms from their sister companies should be probed as neither any equipment was purchased nor installed and it was just for accounts manipulation in the books to earn exorbitant profits. Chopra said that they have raised the issue in the Assembly earlier but nothing has happened.
