A super hit scene of Sholay was depicted in real life in Jharkhand's Seraikela- Kharsawan district as a 18 year old woman demanded to be married with her boyfriend. Highly inspired by the iconic movie, she climbed a 150 feet electricity tower and threatened to commit suicide if her demands were not met.
In the 1975 blockbuster, Dharmendra's character Veeru had climbed a water tank in order to make his lover Basanti's (Hema Malini) aunt agree to the lovers' marriage.
The incident occurred at Seraikela's Jordiha village on 27th June and a huge crowd gathered to witness it. Later on, even cops arrived with an ambulance, fire brigade and a net. Amita (name changed), the girl was highly adamant that her marriage should take place with Vijay Das alias Guddu, a resident of Manik Bazar village.
Young lovers can go to extreme lengths to achieve what they aspire for. In their obstinacy, they are unable to understand the pros and cons of their decisions.
As per the police, the girl had taken the risk as her parents had reprimanded her. Enraged, she had climbed the uppermost bar of the tower at around 3:30 A.M.
Negotiations continued for a long time and it seemed highly tough to convince the girl. In her anger, she had also thrown her mobile phone and asked the cops to bring Vijay and her parents to the spot.
