Taking cognizance of the statements made by the Union Minister Piyush Goyal that the Government of Goa was finalizing the proposal to privatize Goa Electricity Department by engaging the services of Tata Group, the Goa Government Employees' Association (GGEA) convened a meeting at the GGEA office at Patto, Panaji which was attended by over 70 employees.
During the meeting, the employees expressed apprehensions whether the service benefits enjoyed by them as Government servants like Central Pay Commission Pay scales, seniority, promotions and transfer policy would continue to remain in force in the case of privatization.
Initially, the employees were of the opinion that all the employees of the Department throughout Goa should join in and oppose privatization. John Nazareth, President of GGEA advised the employees not to panic until all the information about the Government proposal was available in hand.
After elaborate discussion, a committee was formed to organise meetings with all employees before a decision was taken to either accept or oppose the government's proposal. GGEA shall seek additional details from Power Minister Milind Naik.
