Three hydro electric projects of 285 MW shall be established on the down steam of river Beas from Padoh Dam in Mandi district to Pong dam at the edge of kangra district on the boundary of Punjab. This will include Berry Nichli of 78 MW, Dhoula Sidh of 66 MW and Thana Palon of 141 MW projects. The Berry Nichli is being constructed by the Himachal Power Corporation with the cost of rs 700 crore. Stating this Irrigation and Public health minister Ravinder Ravi said that Himachal has a capacity to produce 23230 MW Hydro Electricity. The state has planed to generate 1700 MW hydro electricity by the end of 12 th plan.
At the movement the state is generating 6676 mw hydro centricity, he said. The minister said that during the three years rule of the present Dhumal government the state started producing 308 MW extra electricity and the government has started work on the projects which can further 6000MW in coming years. He said that Himachal Pradesh is fast emerging as the Power state of the Country.
He said that the long winter spell and the heavy snowfall in Himachal has brightened the prospects of generating full capacity of power during the summer this year.
