An MSEDCL officer said that to pay power bills by mobile phones the consumer has to register himself once. This could be done by sending an SMS to 567678 - MSEDCL REG Consumer No Billing Unit No Credit Card No card expiry date - month followed by the last two digits of the year. Billing unit no is the code of your subdivision.
For example if your consumer no is 4444400000333, billing unit no is 4681 (Shankar Nagar), credit card no is 5555500000222222 and the expiry date is June 2015. Your will have to send an SMS - MSEDCL REG 4444400000333 4681 5555500000222222 0615.
After successful registration MSEDCL will send an SMS to the consumer. Once registration is done you will have to send an SMS to 567678 - MSEDCL CVV No OTP where CVV No is the card verification value written at the back side of the credit card. If your CVV is 123 and OTP is 234876 then you will have to send an SMS - MSEDCL PAY 123 234876. The drawback of this method is that you can only pay bills up to .`1,000 as per RBI directives.
The second method is using interactive voice response system (IVRS). You have call up 022-29213100 and follow the instructions to make the bill payment. This service can be availed from a landline phone also.
The third option is to download a mobile software. Internet facility should be available on your mobile phone. You will have to send an SMS 'ATOM' to the number 54959.
A link will be sent to you for downloading the software. By clicking on the link, the software will be installed on your mobile phone. Then you will have to follow the instructions given in the software to pay the bill.
