Finance Minister Jayant Mallaiya, replying to a call attention motion of MLA Shailendra Jain in the Madhya pradesh Assembly , said that a high-level probe would be initiated into the working of Electricity Franchise Company in Sagar.
Jain, raising this issue, alleged that consumers have got electricity bills which are 100 to 1000 per cent higher than their consumption. He alleged that anti-social elements are being used to recover electricity bills and were misbehaving with women. He also claimed that electricity meters were changed 2 to 3 times in a year. Jain said a huge variation was found after checking average bills of 67,000 consumers.
Mallaiya said probe would be done in the presence of MLAs so as to examine the work of the Company in whole Sagar district.
Malaiya was representing energy minister Rajendra Shukla in his absence. The matter was raised by the BJP MLAs from Sagar Shailendra Jain and Pradip Laria during the call attention motion.
Jain brought to the notice of the house that officials of Essel energy distribution company, which has been supplying power in Sagar since May 10, 2012, often barged into the consumers' houses, misbehaved with the woman folks, installed faulty meters, falsified bills and often attempted to frame consumers in fake power thefts to realize money from them.
He sought the minister to withdraw the permission to distribute power from the company as the firm was even unable to address the matter of voltage fluctuation.
Jain, however, insisted that the electricity bills prior to 2012 be compared with those produced now by the firm and anybody could make out that there had been an increase in the bill amount from 100% to 1000%.
He said that nearly 66,000 consumers of the company in Sagar had repeatedly been complaining against the company representatives and hence the issue should be taken up on a priority.
In response to this, Malaiya assured the house to send a high-level team from Bhopal to get the allegations probed. He said Shailendra Jain would also be part of the team.
