OnlineIn yet another step towards digitalising public services, Chhattisgarh State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (CSEDCL) has introduced online application system for new electricity consumers. This facility would be available to all categories of consumers - domestic, commercial, industrial, agricultural and others.

Chief Engineer of Energy Info Tech Centre (CETC), Ashok Kumar said the service, which would be mandatory, was initially started in 20 towns last year, would now be available through out the state. He said though not many online applications were received during the last one year, this would now be mandatory and manual receipt of applications would be phased out gradually.

"We are trying to make the entire process smoother so that there is no delay in providing electricity connections to consumers," said Kumar.

With the online process the applicant will only have to visit the office once for the verification process. "After the application is successfully completed, a team will survey the house for verification and would check the load needed for the connection," he added.

State Electricity board has provided the facility of online application at Common Service Centres (CSC) for those who are not computer savvy. Assistance would be provided to such people to fill their applications online.

"Online payment facility will also be there so consumer will not have to run from pillar to post," Kumar said adding that out of 415 zones and distribution centres in the state, 46 locations will be exempted as they have no network connectivity.

He said the application process has also been simplified and the number of documents required for applying for a connection have been reduced.

A house owner in Mowa, Prabhat Srivastava said getting a new electricity connection is a painful process and hopefully the online processing would make it easy and simple.
