The Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) on 26-07-2016 rejected the revision petitions of Gridco and Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC) for reconsideration of their annual revenue requirements.
The three-member Commission headed by Chairperson SP Nanda refused to revisit the March 21, 2016 tariff order which had given a relief to consumers by keeping the 2015-16 tariff rate unchanged.
Gridco and OHPC, the two State-run companies, had filed revision petitions before OERC requesting for higher power tariff as the prevailing rate is not sustainable.
While Gridco had demanded about 26 per cent hike in the bulk supply price (BSP), OHPC had pleaded for a hike of 60.52 paise per unit in the generating cost.
Meanwhile, Odisha Power Generation Corporation, which had filed its annual revenue requirement application for the first time for 2016-17 with a request for generation tariff hike of 71.87 paise per unit, has moved the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity against the OERC tariff order. The Odisha Rajya Bidyut Upavokta Mahasangha, a consumer welfare organisation of the State, staged a demonstration near OERC office demanding rejection of the revision petitions of Gridco and OHPC.
Mahasangha president Panchanan Kanungo urged the Commission to direct for an energy audit and audit into the accounts of distribution companies.
Commission's Secretary KL Panda met the agitators and assured them that there would be no further hike in the power tariff, Kanungo said.
