Project Roshini to make Rashtrapati Bhavan eco friendly

'Go green' seems to be the motto of Rashtrapati Bhavan this year as the majestic estate would take a slew of energy saving and pollution free steps aimed at making it an "ideal township". Not only new gardens have come up, the nearly eight-decade old President estate will also gift the national capital its first rock garden later this year. "The project Roshini adopted last year has started functioning. Our aim is to make this estate stand out as an ideal township with stress being given on energy saving methods and recycling of wastes," Dr Christy L Fernandez, Secretary to President Pratibha Patil, said.

'Project Roshini', launched in the first week of July, 2008, is an endeavour to make the 355-room President's house estate an eco-friendly township. As part of the project, a vermi compose pit has already been set up in the estate."The waste disposal system has been set up from which we are making organic manure. Women living in the estate are working on it," Fernandes said.
