In a major setback to Essel Vidyut Vitran (Ujjain) Pvt Ltd, the work awarded to the company to look after power distribution and billing in Ujjain city area, was withdrawn.
Pachim Kshetra Vidyut Vitran Company Ltd (PKVVCCL), had awarded the work to the private company some two years back. After few months, complains started pouring in from citizens about excess billing, fast running of meters, use of muscle power to collect dues. Even public representatives from ruling BJP carried out demonstrations against the company.
The company failed in resolving power disruption cases promptly during rainy season.
Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had to announce during civic election campaign recently that the contract would be terminated if people are not satisfied.
PKVVCCL superintendent engineer N C Gupta confirmed termination of the work to franchisee and said old arrangement of government company would be restored.
A notice of termination was pasted at Divine Valley situated office of Essel company on Saturday and engineers from government power company have joined their duty on respective zonal offices in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, Essel company filed a petition against the termination of service in Madhya Pradesh high court on Saturday pleading a stay on the decision, but as the government had already filed a caveat request, court asked power company to reply with affidavits.
