PSEB Engineers Association opposed the electricity (amendment) bill and supported the decision of All India power Engineers Federation regarding work boycott on the scheduled day of placing the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2014 for discussion in Parliament.
Sanjeev Sood General secretary of Association said that two member delegation of the Association led by Padamjit Singh participated in the AIPEF meeting and univocally condemned the aims and objects of this proposed amendment of the Electricity Act, 2003.
The Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2014 initiated in the Parliament on 19th December, 2014 with the purpose of further splitting of Electricity Distribution Sector into carriage and content to enable profit mongers to enter into supply business of urban and revenue potential area without any investment for development or expansion of the Power Industry. The proposed Bill if enacted will open the sector for cherry picking by the suppliers pressing the poor and low end consumer to pay more for consumption of Electricity. The Association appeal to Government not to go ahead with proposed move to pass the bill in coming session.
Baldev Singh President of association said that All India power engineers Federation had given its views to standing committee on energy but did not got an opportunity to present its view point . The committee listened to the view points of only those organizations which support the bill.18 states who presented their view point opposed the implementation of the electricity bill. .The Association is of firm view that the revenue earning cities of Punjab will be swallowed by the private parties and burden will have to be shouldered by the PSPCL
