PunjabYesterday, The employees of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL)  observed a complete strike in Mohali, Kharar and other parts of the district. The strike was observed on the joint call of the Technical Services Union and PSPCL Employees' Federation to protest against the implementation of the Electricity Act, 2003, proposed privatisation of the Power Board, not filling up of vacant posts and non-fulfillment of other pending demands.

Even the cash counters at offices remained closed, causing great hardship to the consumers, who could not get their bills deposited. The protestors staged dharnas and rallies outside their respective offices and threatened to intensify the stir, if their demands were not met soon.

Due to the strike, faults in power supply were also not rectified. While power supply to Phase IX in Mohali (behind Punjab School Education Board headquarters) was restored on Wednesday afternoon after remaining suspended for almost 12 hours, several villages, including Cholta, Pannuan, Theri, Ghoga, Bassian, Dharak and Deh Kalan, were without electricity since last night.

PSPCL officials said the faults could be repaired only after the employees return to work from Wednesday midnight.
