For the first time in India, Mumbai consumers can pay their bills through Web and Mobile based Wallet Payment facility which is nothing but another quick and hassle free payment facility for consumers. The consumers preferring cash payment will be benefited and can avoid queues with this scheme and thus can save their time and money.
23 lakh low end suburban consumers will be major beneficiaries of the scheme who prefer to pay bills by cash. Around 400 plus outlets will available for Wallet Recharge across Mumbai. Reliance Infrastructure Limited (RInfra), India's leading integrated power distribution company today launched the Mobile Wallet Bill Payment facility for their Mumbai customers. Customers who prefer to pay their bills in cash will be benefited by this fast and hassle free technology based bill payment system. The service would facilitate RInfra's 28 lakh consumers to pay their electricity bills through a simple SMS, anytime, anywhere. They can now avoid long queues and save time and money.
RInfra's 23 lakh low end consumers will be most benefited as they normally prefers to pay their bills by cash. With this, RInfra became first Indian power utility to offer both web based and mobile based wallet payment facility to their customer.
Commenting on the development, Spokesperson, Reliance Infrastructure Ltd. said, "We are committed to take technology enabled services to all our consumers to facilitate them to save their precious time and money. We cater to around 23 lakh domestic users including approximately 12 lakh coming from the unstructured developments. Since, these consumers normally prefer to pay their power bills by cash, Mobile Wallet Bill Payment facility will thus benefit them the most." RInfra is the largest power distribution company in Mumbai with the licensed distribution area spread over 400 Sq. Kms. in suburbs and surrounding areas of Mumbai. It is supplying power to around 2.8 million consumers. Company has been recently mandated to distribute electricity for next 25 years, i.e., till 14th August, 2036.
What is Mobile Wallet?
· A wallet is a concept wherein customer loads money against his mobile number, by approaching a retail outlet.
· The retail outlet helps the customer create a wallet after which cash deposit can be made against customer's mobile number.
· This balance can be used to make payments like energy bill, mobile bill, DTH recharges etc. at customer's convenience, 24X7.
A Mobile Wallet can be used for person to person (P2P), remittances, product purchase, bill payment, airtime top-up, e-ticketing and other buy/sell scenarios. Transactions can be made through various channels like mobile, over the counter and ATM.
How to use this service?
Step 1: Customer can approach any of the designated MMPL retail outlets
Option 1: Customer chooses to pay cash to retailer, payment is made through retailer's mobile wallet and customer receives SMS confirmation of the same
Option 2: Customer asks retailer to create wallet on his own number, and pays cash to load the wallet. Customer also provides a filled up KYC form to the retailer during registration. Subsequently, customer chooses to pay for various services at his convenience.
Step2: To Pay RInfra: Customer debits his wallet by sending a simple SMS: REM*(CA no.)*(Payment amount)*(customer mobile no.) to 9223535544
Step 3: Recharge: Customer can recharge the wallet either at the outlets by cash payment or through My Mobile Payments Limited's (MMPL) website via online payment; with whom RInfra has a tie-up to bring in this technology based payment facility for Mumbaikars. There are almost 400 plus outlets available across entire Mumbai, for recharging the Wallet.
