conference on global climate change held at Poznań, PolandThane Municipal Corporation (TMC)'s energy conservation projects received vide appreciation during a four-day conference on global climate change held at Poznań, Poland  organised by United nations(UN). The TMC got the golden opportunity to put forth its projects in front of the civic bodies from across the world through  this conference. The conference was held in Poland to highlight the contribution of civic bodies and local self governments all across the globe in saving the environment. TMC is contributing a lot to saving air and noise pollution through the use of non-conventional energy sources. The corporation will get Carbon Credit (CC) from the UNO for the two projects. The CC is a monetary incentive for reducing the use of carbon and thereby conserving the environment.

TMC commissioner Nandkumar Jantre represented the corporation in the global meet. He delivered a presentation of the civic solar power-based air conditioning project that is currently planned for the Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (CSM) Hospital, Kalva. The unique air conditioning project, also planned for the Gadkari Rangayatan, has also been presented to the delegates from all over the world.

Jantre's presentations drew wide applause from the international delegates. Several civic bodies from across the globe are now likely to show keen interest in the TMC projects. If so, the TMC will be the only civic body in the entire country to export technical know how about energy conservation technology to civic bodies of other countries.

Notably, the TMC has mooted the use of solar energy to run the mega air conditioning project at the CSM Hospital. The proposal is the first of its kind anywhere in the country. The project not only aims at reducing the dependency upon the conventional means of power and fuel to run generators but also involves saving of cost to a great extent. Furthermore, the TMC is also contributing preciously to saving environment in the execution of the ambitious proposal. The technology involves using revolutionary vapour absorption technique instead of the vapour emission used in the conventional air conditioning system. Solar reflectors are put up atop the CSM building to generate vapours to run the 180 capacity unit. It will save around Rs 80 lakh worth of power every year through the use of non-conventional means of power.

The CSM project gained a national recognition about two years back during a meet organised by the ministry of non-conventional energy. The corporation got the first prize in the public sector category in the entire country for the project. The honours were conferred on the TMC at the hands of the then president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

Similarly, the corporation has also resorted to the use of non-conventional power to run the air conditioning mechanism in the Gadkari Rangayatan. The technology seeks to run the air conditioners in the auditorium through the use of thermo condensing technology. The use of the technology will save power to the extent of Rs 14 lakh per annum.

Thane Municipal Corporation passed a directive to give discounts on property tax if alternative water heating gadgets were installed in new buildings.
