In a desperate measure from the Uttar Pradesh government to end open defecation, the government has cut electricity from all those houses that do not have a toilets inside their premises.
The government has also threatened to withdraw ration cards, pension and LPG subsidy if residents do not construct toilets in their homes. The administration reportedly took the decision after the said house owners refused to build toilets inspite of repeated reminders.
These villagers wanted government money to build toilets, however, they were expected to make toilets at their own expense since they did not qualify for the subsidy, said the BDO.
Sources point out that the villagers are not happy and they feel that the government is bullying them into participating in the Swacchta Mission.
