DeepthiIt was my first camp after joining Officers Association.I asked my colleagues on the theme of the camp.I had perfectly no idea on the theme.I guessed it could be some kind of classes on career improvement and motivational talks. We started off by 8.30 in the morning and reached the KTDC hotel which was in the midst of calm and serene nature.
Finally I got to know that at first there is class on revolutionary trade union movements. My heart sank as this definitely is not my cup of tea.Now someone will come and speak complicated things with much more complicated words. It was Com.Chandran Pillai who started the Class. His words were simple and thought provoking .My notions on complicated words just vanished off once he started. He talked about many subjects including globalisation, socialism, pension, current affairs etc. He discussed on the anti people policies of the current Govt. He told that in India, millions of children are malnourished which could have been avoided if the funds misused in the scams that were disclosed one after the other could have been properly utilised.Everyone was keenly listening to each and every word he talked about. He talked why it is important for the working class to get to know things around rather than being onlookers.
After the talk we visited Canolly plot and Teak museum.Canolly plot was a beautiful place which had the biggest teak tree grown by man.Everyone mingled with each other during the visit
Then we had Com.Sainaba who talked about the problems of women, exploitation and injustice towards women in society. She said many women are ignorant about their rights and many tend to follow the customs in society as it is. Their ignorance toward their rights make them prone to exploitation. She told every women should have the courage to stand for what she feels is right. There may be many obstacles but one should stand and fight for it .Moreover one of the best way to make change in society is to start the change at home.
Next day of the camp was commence#v by talk by Com.Ranjana Nirula who discussed about various problems faced by women in society. She talked how the culture in Kerala made a changeover in past few decades. Once Kerala was one of the safest places where women could travel free, it has turned just the opposite way now. She made each one in the Camp describe a problem she faced as a Women and split the entire group into four .Each group acted out a solution for a specific problem. Through the activities, the message that problems should not be confined to oneself and should be discussed for finding a solution, was made clear.
A weekend which would have been spent hanging around in shopping mall or beach was spent in well managed informative study class. It made everyone thinI about various aspects of life which never came into thoughts and also think the multiple dimensions to view a problem.Altogether it was an awesome programme with blend of fun and learning .Cheers to each and every member who arranged such an awesome class.
